This morning was a bit confusing, to me at any rate! A linnet was building a nest in a gorse bush, a meadow pipit was parachuting in a display flight from a considerable height, a whimbrel was feeding on the shingle spit and a stream of swifts were flying home westwards along the beach. Is it spring, summer or autumn? Certainly, things are on the 'change' and I am looking forward to the late summer/autumn migration....but isn't a bit late for that linnet to be building a nest now?

All very confusing

Where does the time go?
I can't belive over 2 weeks have gone since my last entry and my Scottish holiday! Birding at Pagham has been quiet with only a few Whimbrel turning up during the last few days. There are 2 Ringed Plovers with eggs on the beach and they should hatch in the next few days. A Little Tern was seen yesterday with a fish in its beak so hopefully one nest has survived! A party of 4 Peregrines were in the harbour 2 days ago....presumably from the successful nest on Chichester cathederal.
Illegal fishing with nets created a bit of a stir today but by the time the warden was on the scene many 3-5 lb Mullet had been given the last rites and were on the way to a BBQ.
Hopefully there will be a bit more excitement on the birding front in the next week or so when migration should begin.
