Goodbye December 2022

 Bad weather and domesticities prevented as many opportunities as I would have liked for birding on my local patch in December.

However I was able to capture a few of the regulars and of course the regular 'long stay' Snow Bunting which remained reasonably faithful to the same spot along the ironwork of the harbour entrance on  most days, although there were times when it moved a little way along towards the base of the old hide.

 I hope these photos give just a flavour of some of birds seen  on and around Pagham Spit at this time of year.

Hopefully the weather will improve soon and I will have a little more free time to see the wide variety of species usually seen quite easily  here on the spit. Not today though.......the rain is pouring down and the wind is blowing a hooley!

November around the harbour.

From the humble Robin to the more unusual species, all are very different in their particular requirements...and that's where Pagham Harbour scores with its rich variety of habitats!

Stonechat up to three pairs have been frequenting the bushes on the spit.

  

A rather secretive Dartford Warbler was quite difficult to see but a couple remained on the spit for most of the month.

A Snow Bunting first arrived on November 10th

A very approachable Red Breasted Merganser has been present along the shoreline.

A Sandwich Tern in the harbour...a few tend to remain during the winter months.

Cormorants are always present in the harbour..

Ducks have been well represented with Wigeon numbers building up during the month
