Not one but two Shrikes!

As the news filtered through last night that the rocks for the Pagham Beach  revetment were not arriving from Norway today I decided a visit to Waltham Brooks on a brilliant sunny morning was a 'must'. I arrived at 9.15 to be told the Great Grey Shrike had been sighted at 7.50 a.m. I hung around for 40 minutes and then headed to Pulborough Brooks until lunchtime in the hope that it may re-appear. Upon returning several other birders were looking and one told me I was looking in the wrong place and that he'd seen it 20 minutes earlier. To cut a long story short and making my way past the sewage works and crossing the railway line eventually a shout went up, and there it was albeit rather distant. It was really too distant for a photograph but anyway here are a few cropped images....certainly recognisable and a record!

...and then remarkably it was joined by a second bird and was none too pleased and made off. The pair dropped into another bush and then I didn't see them again!

The only shot I got of the two birds....just about discernible!
